Caity & Nate | Scripps Seaside Forum | La Jolla Wedding Videography

They have been together for almost ten years, since they first started dating in high school. Caity was a popular cheerleader, while Nate was the laid back surfer guy. When they both ended up at UCLA, Nate choosing Los Angeles over his original plan of staying near the ocean in San Diego, their relationship really had a chance to take root. They both agree- their relationship has grown and matured every single year since.

Scripps Seaside Forum was the perfect setting for these two to be married. Against the backdrop of the ocean that they both love so much, Caity and Nate spoke their vows and celebrated with their friends and family.

Best of 2012

2012 has been a beautiful year for us. We’ve focused a lot on honing our craft and becoming even better storytellers through our cinematic medium. Here are just a handful of the wonderful highlights of our year!

1. We have now been featured five times by Style Me Pretty!

2. We filmed eight weddings this year, each of them unique and beautiful:

Cat & Dan, Santa Monica, California
Elisa & Brendan, San Francisco, California
Anny & John, Woodside, California
Becky & David, Walnut Creek, California
Olivia & Dan, Napa, California
Kristina & Ian, Sea Ranch, California
Sun & Elliot, Evanston, Illinois

3. Of our weddings this year, the most popular was Becky and David’s creative California ranch wedding:

4. We also filmed, edited, and appeared in our first personal video that we’ve shared– our Second Thanksgiving celebration with our friends in Los Angeles:

5. And finally, we made a bunch of “invisible” behind the scenes upgrades, such as incorporating and becoming an LLC, moving web servers, upgrading our vimeo account, purchasing new gear, and more!

Thank you to all of our 2012 couples for a fantastic year. We’re looking forward to growing, learning, laughing, and sharing more in 2013!

Building a Home | Los Angeles, CA

I love the holiday season – the mood, the general feeling of generosity and warmth, and especially the opportunity for family and friends to be together.  Thanksgiving is a perfect lead-in for this season, and the abundance and availability of food and flavors helps to emphasize all of that.

Second Thanksgiving came about a couple years ago when two of our friends were planning to celebrate Thanksgiving with their family, but due to inclement weather, ended up being unable to make it and thus, didn’t get any food.  Given how much I love Thanksgiving food, I felt it was too much of a tragedy for them to go without, and so we collectively decided to cook a second Thanksgiving dinner the next day with a whole turkey and all of the sides.  I was especially happy to oblige, since it was these friends who had just gotten Jenny and I a nice roasting pan for our wedding gift and this was another chance to use it!

Two years later, while making plans for what is now an annual tradition, our friend Jon bought a very large conference table (4 feet wide, 8 feet long!) off of craigslist with the intent of putting it in my back patio.  The plans for Second Thanksgiving only escalated from there, with Jenny and Pei’s love of crafts, Jenny’s desire to reuse supplies from our wedding, and Anna’s love of planning.  Jon and I topped it off by buying lumber and building two very heavy benches to fit the table.

What resulted was an amazing event with 16 close friends from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and even Chicago, beautifully set up and well catered (by ourselves).  So much hard work went into building this up, and we were blessed to have the ability to document truly turning a house into a home.  I’m grateful for the efforts and presence of such wonderful friends and the chance Anna and I got to create a film that we’re incredibly proud of and are excited to share with everyone.

Seaglass Cinema has had a great 2012, and we are already looking forward to 2013!  Wishing you a happy and safe holidays!

Thanks!

Gotta Snag You | Sun & Elliot | Alice Millar Chapel, Evanston, Illinois

Their story starts with high school prom, but after that, Sun and Elliot went their separate ways and didn’t see or speak to each other for years. They had another chance encounter when they both attended a wedding, but it was still not their time.

It wasn’t until a few more years later, when Sun was in Chicago and Elliot had just moved to San Francisco, that they finally started their relationship. But as if long distance across half the country was not enough, they then had to take their relationship across the ocean. Sun asked Elliot, You know I’m going to Vietnam for a year…? and yes, he knew. In truth, he knew. They already had one too many missed connections, and he wasn’t about to let her slip by. Within the first few months, he had already planned out the next couple years– she goes to Vietnam, he visits, and they travel to Korea together in the next winter to visit her parents, he proposes, she moves to San Francisco the next summer, and then they get married.

And that’s exactly how the story unfolded. On a beautiful day in Evanston, Illinois, they were wed!

Kristina & Ian | Sea Ranch Lodge | Sonoma Coast Wedding Videography

It all started with sisterly advice on how to make the perfect blueberry pie to impress Kristina and culminated in a fittingly outdoor adventure proposal on a lake in Chile.

In a gorgeous ocean-side wedding, all focus was on the joining of two “now slightly larger” families and spending quality time together.

Olivia & Dan | Beaulieu Garden | Napa Wedding Videography

Back in high school, Dan, a lowly sophomore with a minivan, tried to muster up his courage to talk to Olivia, the beautiful senior. It was months before he got past the eye contact and they finally spoke, when he discovered she had actually been doing the same. They knew they would be together from then on. They were together through college, through long distance, through the California Coast road trips, and through lots of growing up.

Ten years later, on a sunny day in September, Olivia and Dan tied the knot at the gorgeous Beaulieu Garden in Napa Valley.

The Taiwanese Prince | Becky & David | Diablo Ranch, Walnut Creek

Becky & David | 07.01.2012 from Seaglass Cinema on Vimeo.

If ever there was a unique spin on the classic fairytale of a wedding, Becky and David’s was it. Their creativity, their goofball humor, and their love for each other combined in a beautiful, untraditional celebration. The setting: a working cattle ranch nestled in the hills of Mount Diablo (complete with emu, cow, horses). The reception: food stations, lounge seating, a photobooth, and more. From the Chipotle burritos to the handmade signs all around the wedding, every detail was planned based on what was meaningful to them.

It was an absolute privilege to document such a special, personal day. Congratulations, Becky and David!
